Fingersmith

Here you will find various scenes and short stories based on the Sarah Waters novel Fingersmith.

From the Diary of Mrs Susan Rivers - from a collection of diary pages discovered in a locked box at Briar.

Absolution - a post Fingersmith story set 60 years on. Maud and Sue finally discuss something very important.

Emma - a homoerotic aside to do with the Victorian English obsession with birching.

By The Ice House - A dark, gothic exploration. After the unexpected murder of Richard Rivers everyone's plans at Briar are changed. But is Richard really dead, and where does the iron barred gate at the mysterious stone structure by the ice-house lead? Written from Sue's POV. I Knew - A short, sensual piece from Sue's POV.

Mother - I was wondering what Maud would truly think of her real mother and how she would deal with her 'sacrifice'.

A Game - This was an idea I had after thinking about the tooth blunting incident where Maud asks if a lady may taste the fingers of her maid.

Want - I was wondering what Maud might have written to make her living. What were the words that were full of want? From Maud's POV, an erotic story.

Melt - Inspired by a Jarvis Cocker quote mounted on the wall of a university accommodation building in Sheffield, UK. From Maud's POV.

Everything - What would have happened if Maud had acted on her thoughts after her encounter with Sue rather than pretended it was all a dream? From Maud's POV.

You Pearl - Mostly inspired by the TV adaptation but also through the novel. I noticed the discrepancy in the two points of view in the love scene. Sue seemed to think Maud was crying and Maud seemed to think it was Sue's tears on her own face. Anyway, it got me thinking.

The Faustian Play - This piece explores the darker side of Maud.

Thunder - Part One - This brief piece is based on the thunder storm scene from the TV adaptation. Written from Maud's point of view.

Thunder - Part Two - This brief piece is based on the thunder storm scene from the TV adaptation. Written from Sue's point of view.

Darkness Come - Explores Maud's thoughts for Sue.
